Vivienne Westwood x The Cambridge Satchel Co. - The Iconic Squiggle Satchel

If you’re here, you may already know the story - our beginnings selling satchels from the kitchen table back in 2008. Our hit as the Brit-It Bag of New York Fashion Week. And of course our iconic Google Ad. But here’s another unforgettable landmark moment to add to the timeline - our collaboration with Vivienne Westwood. Five years into our journey, we could not have dreamed of celebrating this anniversary in a more exciting way - in fact, Vivienne Westwood immediately came to mind when considering our next collaboration at the time. And our wish was granted - we were welcomed into the Westwood World!

And so, in came the iconic Squiggle Satchel. Who remembers Westwood’s Pirate collection which made an appearance on the catwalk in the eighties? The appearance of these adventurous designs, rooted in history but printed with punk patterns and pops of colour, also marked the day the legendary Squiggle motif was born. Forty years later, we’re still such huge fans of it. And boy does it look good on a bag. We wanted to bring back the 80’s with a twist - or should we say with a Squiggle?

Adding her signature touch of punk to our bags, Westwood’s design was so popular in our first collaboration that we decided to collaborate again two years later, with new limited edition colours. The Satchel, the Music Case and the Tiny were just some of the bags which bore these designs.

We think we can all agree that Vivienne Westwood is one of the UK’s most celebrated and talented designers. Who doesn’t see that fabled Orb logo without recalling her name? Not only that, but the brand’s beliefs in quality over quantity, in craftsmanship and heritage, and a sustainable approach to fashion are entirely in line with our values.

This collaboration must, then, have been written in the stars. It’s only right that, like all our bags, our Vivienne Westwood collaboration designs were handmade in our workshop in the heart of England. As our bags last a lifetime (and are bags which our wearers want to wear for a lifetime!), we know that our Vivienne Westwood collections are living beyond the length of our two collaborations. Because years later, they’re still being flaunted on the streets today.
