This week saw the launch of our brand new accessories collection. Featuring brand new styles like the Push Lock Purse, reimagined classics like the Billfold Wallet and stylish new laptop cases and leather notebooks. Perfect for gifts or as a treat from you to you (we all need that sometimes!). We caught up with our Head of Product Scott Simpson to find out all the details of the new styles and how we can expect our accessories collection to expand and evolve over the coming seasons.

Tell us a bit about the thought process behind the new accessories collection?

We were keen to introduce styles to the collection which would match back with, and complement, the colours and components of our existing bags. We try as much as possible for all of our bags and accessories to have the recognisable DNA of The Cambridge Satchel Company.

What was your inspiration for the new pieces?

We looked to the popular push lock fastening, which features on the Poppy and Push Lock ranges, as a signature piece of hardware which would be representative of the brand. This features on the new Push Lock Purse. We are also introducing key functional pieces such as the Card Case, Billfold Wallet and Passport Cover – all of which are great, unisex pieces and perfect as presents.

What is the process like from design concept to manufacturing of these new accessories?

We have collaborated with an artisan factory in Spain to produce this range of small accessories. We have worked hard to ensure that this new product range reflects the integrity, quality and manufacturing processes that are a key feature of The Cambridge Satchel Company bags made in Great Britain. We sourced high quality materials that are durable as well as stylish. The styles have been designed in Cambridge by our team with functionality in mind.

Why do you think it’s important for The Cambridge Satchel Company to offer accessories as part of the range?

Small leather goods are essential pieces, and many customers often request them to accessorise and complement their bag purchases. We were keen to offer styles which are both appealing aesthetically, but also fully functional and offer a variety of uses. Design and functionality are at the heart of everything we do!

What’s your favourite piece from the new collection?

For our designer, Hazel, the Small Push Lock Purse is a great everyday piece, with internal zip pocket for coins, and small slip pockets suitable for cards and receipts. I’m obsessed with the Billford Wallet as it includes plenty of space for cards as well as cash compartments. It is a great shape to fit in a man’s pocket.

Tell us a bit about how these are made?

All pieces from this small leather collection are produced and finished by hand in a family owned and operated factory in Spain. It is a factory well known for its excellence in craftsmanship which is a perfect fit with us. Here at The Cambridge Satchel Company we are committed to supporting craftsmanship and preserving skills in manufacturing and leatherwork. For this small leather accessories collection we spent considerable time reviewing suppliers and manufacturers who were aligned with our values – creating timeless pieces that would stand the test of time at an affordable price that allows them to be enjoyed by all our customers.

How can we expect the accessories collection to evolve over the next few seasons – any sneak peeks or things to look forward to?

In the following seasons, the range will expand to offer new finishes of leather, and introduces key seasonal colours, to complement the bag range further. We are also working on exciting new shapes that will be instantly recognisable as TCSC!
