Things We Love

How To Dress For Winter By Kim From Love Cloth

Here at The Cambridge Satchel Company we like to focus on keeping things simple, stylish and practical. Our bags are designed to not only look great but to be functional and versatile for all the adventures you love to take them on. With that in mind, we asked blogger Kim Turkington from Love Cloth and her (equally stylish but very humble) boyfriend Simon Durrant to choose the bags they love most from our collection and show us how they’d style them on a winter weekend in South London. We followed them around for a day of market-hopping, ‘Instagram boyfriend’ moments, festive waffles and more. Here’s what happened.

What to wear for: Festive shopping at the market

Where:Borough Market

If you only do one thing: Grab a hot chocolate from Rabot 1745

“On a Saturday we like to get out and about early – this look is all about being comfortable for spending a few hours at the market. Trainers are a must, as is bringing my Tote Bag. I rarely pack light; I’m always carrying my camera, phone, purse and then there’s all the nice and bits and bobs I’ll pick up from the market.

Borough Market is great for picking up fresh bread and they have some of the best salted caramel brownies I’ve ever tasted! We were feeling in the festive mood so we sampled some of the mulled wine too, a must this time of year.” – Kim

What to wear for: Brunch then Christmas drinks with friends

Where: Bermondsey Street

If you only do one thing: Head to Tanner & Co for brunch and breakfast cocktails!

“For a slightly dressier look, I think it’s nice sometimes to keep your outfit quite simple and let the bag be the focus. The Poppy in Oxblood is such a rich wintery shade and it looks really chic paired with my favourite black skinny jeans and (a recent addition to my ever growing knitwear collection – I think I have a problem!) this sparkly jumper from & Other Stories. The Poppy is a great choice for day/night as it actually fits quite a lot in it unlike a lot of cross body bags. Bermondsey Street is one of our favourite streets in London, we could spend the whole day there – exploring the pretty cafes and bars.” – Kim

What to wear for: A cosy walk on the Southbank

Where: Southbank Winter Festival Sponsored By Nat West

If you only do one thing: Try the Apple Strudel waffles from the Waffle On stall!

“It isn’t Christmas until you’ve done the whole Christmas market thing. There’s so much choice in London but I’m a big fan of walking along the Southbank. Plus there’s a Roller Disco, Cider Lodge and fairground so you won’t be short of things to do.

I thought I’d get into the festive spirit with a slick of red lipstick and this 11” Satchel in Patent Red. I normally keep things quite neutral in terms of colours but I think a pop of red can look really classic, especially at this time of year. Simon opted for the Canvas Backpack in Navy. It’s the ideal bag when we’re out and about on the weekend. Also if he carries that bag it means I can pop my camera in there too – win/win! He’s had his eye on this for a while so I’m thinking that’s one Christmas present sorted this year.”
