A Week In The Life: Sales Account Manager

This week the spotlight is on our Wholesale team as we speak to our Sales Account Manager Jacqueline about what a week in her shoes looks like. A job everyone at CSC HQ secretly envies, Jacqueline’s role often takes her to the bright lights of New York or the bustling streets of Paris. Read on to find out more about what Jacqueline does and how the Wholesale team plays a huge role in expanding our customer base across the globe.

“I am a night owl so mornings are not my favourite. Generally my day starts at 7am and recently I’ve been trying to get to the gym one morning a week.  First things first: coffee and Weetabix. I try to catch up on the latest news headlines over breakfast but if I’m honest this is usually interrupted by scrolling through Instagram or Facebook. I love to see what our wholesale partners have been posting and try my best to keep up with their marketing activity on social media. Once I arrive in work I have a Berocca (my magic potion) to keep me going for the day.

A typical day for me can really vary dependent on what time of year it is. In selling season I can be waking up in the UK, Paris or New York and embarking on a day of exciting meetings with potential and existing clients. Throughout the year and out of season I spend my days working from our amazing office in Covent Garden. This is also home to our showroom, where I spend a lot of my time. It’s an incredible space overlooking the street performers in the heart of Covent garden. This can sometimes be tricky/comical as we often find ourselves trying to present to clients while an opera singer is singing Nessun Dorma at the top of his lungs on the street below.

I work closely with our international partners mainly in the US, China , Australia and closer to home in the UK too . This normally means when I’m checking my inbox first thing lots of important emails have come in overnight. After looking over this as a team, we catch up on what has been happening and what the day has in store for us. No day at our office is the same; some days I am showcasing the collection and others I am meeting with product and design to work on the upcoming season.We work really closely with the product team who are keen to hear the feedback from our partners and work with us to develop the best products for our customers all over the world. 

As a brand we are always evolving and I am very proud and excited to see how our collection grows and improves with each new season. We are extremely lucky to have such a talented in-house design team who work hand in hand with our Founder & CEO Julie Deane.

Our Marketing, Sales, E-commerce, Creative and Retail teams are all based in our London HQ in Covent Garden. This building is always a hive of activity. As we work above our Flagship store,  the retail customer is really at the forefront of everything we do – this is extremely helpful for the wholesale team in particular. We are constantly gathering customer feedback from the store teams.

My main responsibilities are to attract new business and manage, nurture and grow our existing accounts. This involves relationship building with key accounts, brand training, hosting in-store events and reviewing sell-through analysis. It is very important to me that all of my accounts follow our brand guidelines and give the customer the same retail experience that we would in our stores.

Covent Garden is an incredible place to work we are surrounded a hive of activity. There are several options for after work drinks and dinner and we are within walking distance of Oxford Circus, the main shopping area in London. Covent Garden is also well connected in terms of transport which makes my morning commute very straight forward. If only less commuters took my route, now that would be bliss.

My favourite thing to do after work is meet my friends for drinks or dinner. As I am originally from Ireland, my friends in London are my family and I love spending time with them. I love to eat out and explore new and exciting places. There is always something wild and wacky to do in London. As a team we recently visited Drink, Shop, Do at Kings Cross for pumpkin carving and cocktails which was brilliant. I’ll definitely be going back for more of their crafty classes and themed nights.

That Friday feeling!

I am a big family girl and regularly escape the London madness and visit Ireland at the weekend to see my family. If I’m spending the weekend in London, I regularly catch up with my brother for a coffee who also lives in London.I love to keep busy so I am always up for a gig, dinner or drinks over the weekend with friends. On Sundays I like to take care of life admin and often have a  trip to the movies in the evening. As I travel so frequently with work it is important for me to make the most of the weekends I am here.

Limerick in Ireland – home for the weekend!

Highlights of my time at The Cambridge Satchel Company so far would definitely include my most recent trip to New York. I met with a very exciting potential new partner and the meeting was very exciting and full of possibility for the seasons ahead – all I can say is watch this space! I have also been involved in our AW16 shoot recently where I joined our Creative Team on a trip to Cambridge. I got my hair and make up done, got to wear really beautiful Autumnal clothes and had to model the bags in front of a photographer. I was really nervous but I really loved being part of the shoot – it showed me a completely different side to the business.

The thing I love most about my job is that I really do love our product and everything we stand for as a brand. I also think it’s a brilliant thing to be able to say that we continue to manufacture our bags in the UK at such an affordable price. I always look up to entrepreneurs and people who have taken risks in their field of business. It’s amazing to say we work for a company who has an inspiring women like our Founder & CEO Julie at the helm of it all.  Julie has managed to create such a hugely successful global business which continues to grow and flourish while always staying true to her values and vision for the brand since day one. I find that really motivating.”
